INVITATION: Polymark Workshop & Training on novel identification technology for high-value plastics waste stream

Join our Polymark Workshop on 15 March 2017 in Brussels

Join us for the presentation of the EU-funded Polymark project completion and gain an insight into a new technology enabling the identification and sorting of polymers, including PET, in the high-value plastics waste stream.

The event will take place on 15 March 2017, 10.00 - 12.30, at the Petcore Europe offices in Brussels (Avenue de Cortenbergh 71, 1000 Brussels), followed by a networking lunch.

The Workshop is particularly relevant for all stakeholders that have a genuine interest in the advancement of plastics sorting and recycling as well as in contributing to the Circular Economy.

The programme for the event is available HERE.

Please note that participation is free of charge and that the number of seats is limited. If you are not able to join us physically in Brussels, you can follow the Workshop online via a webinar.

Why should you join the Polymark Workshop & Training?

PET is one of brand owners’ packaging materials of choice due to its outstanding performance in safely delivering products to consumers, its 100% recyclability and re-use capability. The Polymark project has developed a technology which maximises the value from recycling of this valuable resource while meeting EU rules on the re-use of food contact and non-food contact PET. It successfully distinguishes between food-contact plastics and non-food contact plastics and thus optimises the high-value waste stream.

Workshop participants will learn about:

  • The developed marker substances to encode information regarding the properties and structure of plastic packaging and how these markers are applied on the packaging;
  • The developed identification system that can detect the markers and decode the information in order to separate the post-consumer plastic packaging;
  • The developed Polymark industrial scale sorting system and its performance.

This project (FP7-SME-2012_POLYMARK-311777) has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for research for the benefit of specific groups under grant agreement n° 311777.

About Polymark

Polymark is a three-year research project funded by the European Commission under the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013 & grant agreement n°311777).

PET is one of brand owners’ packaging materials of choice due to its outstanding performance in safely delivering products to consumers, its 100% recyclability and re-use capabilities.

Polymark aims to maximise the value from recycling and the re-use of this valuable resource, while meeting EU regulation on the use of recycled PET for food-contact applications. The technology we are developing will successfully distinguish between food-contact plastics and non-food contact plastics, aiming to further optimise the high-value waste stream and ultimately increase a more valuable use of these materials.

The Polymark partners include: Petcore Europe, European Federation of Bottled Waters (EFBW), European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisations (EPRO), Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE), UK Health and Environmental Research Institute (UK-HERI), Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (IPMS), Sesotec GmbH, ColorMatrix Europe Ltd and 4PET Recycling.
